Day 4 – Roaming the Eyre Peninsula (aka Fly be free)

Wow, what a day !!

Sunrises, oceans, the sound of crashing waves, coastal plains, cliffs, granite rocks, hinterland, mountains, freedom, space, salt lakes, ports, the best steak and onion pie I’ve ever had, local oysters and squid, watching the lights listening to the lapping water … I am so coming back to spend more time in the Eyre Peninsula.

From waking up really really early, the day has been so cruisey and relaxing. I’ve broken the back of the long trek and now its awandering.

Without the feeling of having to ‘get there’, I meandered, pulled into all sorts of side roads, found Murphy’s Haystacks, some caves, a lovely little town called Elliston with an old fashioned bakery that has the most amazing food, sat and communed with the salt lakes and watch the scenery change a dozen times.

It occurred to me today that the are only 2 times my soul feels free, when I’m on a bike flying into the wind and when I’m awandering with no place to be and no particular place to go.

Why do we leave it so long to feed our essential selves ?

Tomorrow I’m heading up to Port Augusta, the shoulders are pretty sore after all this driving, so have splashed out and booked myself a deluxe spa suite … *sigh* I can hear the relaxing sound from here.

I shall leave you with todays collage, it was massively hard to cut out pictures so its a bit overloaded.

Roxby Road Trip – Days 2 & 3

Todays update is brought to you by the letter ‘C’ .. for Ceduna !!

1930 odd k’s down, about a 1000 to go.

Day 2 was pretty uneventful but so much for the hot dry drive. It rained all day … was a pretty steady drizzle, which made driving great. No glare and was lovely and cool. Made it to Madura last night and pretty much crashed. Loads and loads of sleep credits in the bank.

Got up early this morning and headed out to a beautiful sunny day. Its fantastic to be out in the open again. Love the space, the light and just being. Made really good time today, passed over the border this morning, dropped in at Nullarbor, visited the Head of the Bight and made it to Ceduna.

Everytime I get on the road it reminds me of what an awesome magnificent country we live in. Its so beautiful, so harsh and so giving all at the same time. If you spend most of your time in the city, get out of your comfort zone, do yourself a favour and get a dose of our magnificent countryside …

Rather than put up zillions of photos, I’ve created collages for each day. Love the difference in Day 2 and 3. Day 2 is all red, Day 3 is all blue.

Roxby Road Trip – Day 1

Made it to Coolgardie !!

What a day, I woke up early, had coffee at Tiger Tiger and was all ready to go.

Obstacle number 1, somehow I stuffed up with the parking tickets from the hotel and couldn’t get out the boom gate.  There I was, stopped before I had even started.  Half an hour later and sitting around looking like the twit I was, made it out the carpark.
Cool, now I’m on the road again ……
The drive was fairly uneventful bar someone getting done for speeding.
It was amazing ironical considering I’ve spent the last few months hooning up and down the freeway at 100 and something way over the speed limit without raising a single flash, there I was, in the middle of nowhere and I get done by a plain blue commodore coming the other way, ah well such is life.
The cop was pretty good about it, we had a laugh and he did write it down a bit .. so 4 points and $150 later I’m back on my way.
Damn its hard keeping to 110, but I bloody well better or I won’t have a licence by the time I get to SA.
Got into Coolgardie about 4.30ish, settled into the motel and went for a walk with the new camera.
When I got back I met Allan and Erica in the unit next door who just came through from Melbourne and are on their way to Perth for a Corvette convention, with their Corvette in tow.  After a bit of a chat we ended up wandering down the pub for dinner, food was average to say the least but the company was great.
Now its time for some sleep credits and off for Day 2 ….

Its all happening, the 12 day roadtrip and beyond

Weeeeell, looks like it was a fit and I’m sitting here typing as the movers are taking all my stuff away to transport to Roxby Downs.

Seeing as I don’t start till the 12th, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to drive across the Nullarbor, check out the sights on the way and spend a few days awandering Adelaide before I begin.

So, I’m leaving Perth on the 1st of April, April Fools Day, which I think is amazingly appropriate and fortuitous.

I have no plan except to only do a few hundred k’s a day and get to Adelaide early next week.

Tomorrow is pretty much my last day in Perth and will be catching up with close friends and family to say goodbye and do some camera shopping.  Moving to the desert and doing this drive has inspired me to finally go and get the DSLR I’ve always wanted, so be prepared for loads of scenic shots to come soon :)

The last 2 weeks have been a blast, the going away party, Blues & Roots, catching up with gorgeous people and a special thanks to Ken for the most awesome ride around Perth to say goodbye.

Signing out for now and you will hear from me on the road .. haha I’m a geek, do you think I would go anywhere without my mobile broadband …….

Do we fit ?

Here we go .. the anticipation is building, I’m scared, excited and yet feeling like life is happening as it should.
I’m off to Adelaide today for a visit to Roxby Downs and possibly the start of a whole new chapter.
I wasn’t even looking for a new job and one day in a fit of ” I need to move on”, a quick visit to Seek and there it was, a job in the middle of nowhere seeking the exact skills I have. I applied and now they are bringing me over to see if we all fit.
It seems crazy if you know me, I’m a city girl, love going out, love all the benefits of city life, live by the 3 C’s, dont cook, dont clean, dont commit, and yet here I am, seriously looking at committing to a permanent job in the outback. Go Figure, for all that its not me, in my current mindset at least, my very inner being is telling me its the right thing to do.
This is going to be a very very interesting journey and I have no doubts it will bring lots of challenges, learning, change and wonderful things to my life.
